General 10D Plotting
Turn the coordinates of a sampled surface into a changing field of visual glyphs.
A plotted point can carry more information than its position. General 10D Plotting begins with a surface and treats each sample as a small visual instrument: where it sits is one part of its description; its colour, shape, orientation, and texture can disclose the rest.
The surface comes from an implicit equation. Three coordinates locate each sample in space, while seven additional coordinate fields give it a ten-component description. Those additional values are translated into visual properties, producing a surface that can be read as both geometry and a field of differences.
Separate shape from appearance
On a static surface, changing the additional fields changes how the samples look while their positions remain fixed. If time appears in the surface equation itself, the geometry can deform too. Individual glyphs retain their identity through that motion, allowing a changing value to be followed on a changing shape.
The distinction is central to the experiment. A new visual encoding should make another property available to perception without automatically turning it into another spatial displacement. Higher-dimensional data can have a visible presence without every coordinate competing to move the same point.
Inspect the surface, then a sample
Explore the surface presets, change the equations or visual mappings, and isolate a glyph to inspect its coordinate values. Move between the overall pattern and the individual sample that helps produce it. The plotted object is a sampled two-dimensional surface embedded in ten-dimensional space; the experiment explores how much of that description can remain intelligible through its visual skin.
